The Nightreign playtest concluded recently and with that, I wanted to share my first impressions of my four hours or so of time with it. What FromSoftware has continued to do to push Elden Ring and to elevate it to another level is beyond impressive to me.

Nightreign will continue to elevate it after this glimpse of what I played during this playtest. Some aspects need to be adjusted and worked on of course, but the base idea and gameplay have them poised to have another hit on their hands.
They take a key component of what makes From games so fun and addicting to play over and over and make it the focal point of the gameplay here.

The focus of this DLC, being centered around strengthening yourself for boss encounters to progress to an eventual big-time boss fight, is going to provide nothing but hours on end of entertainment.
Not to mention the build potential that the Souls community will eventually get their hands on to express the multitude of unique ways of playing the game.

Pair all of this with the fact that it is a roguelike that lets you repeat the process over and over without having to go through a story or new game plus takes it to an absurd level of replay value.
This is saying a lot for a FromSoftware title considering people are still replaying some of their games for the 50th time even now.

I got wrapped in during every single one of my runs and I did not realize how much time I was spending playing. The four hours I played felt like 30 minutes to an hour.
I was so focused and pressed on leveling up and looting to ensure I had the proper strength and gear for the eventual fight ahead. I don’t want to get too in-depth because this is not a review and, after all, this was just a playtest and changes will be made.

First Impressions though? Go ahead and pre-order Nightreign today and get ready to watch FromSoftware get their third Game of the Year nomination in four years. Unreal run they are on, that right now, I predict they will be continuing with no end in sight!
