Blasphemous 100% Achievement Run (PC)

Reviewed on PC (Steam)

Hello, fellow Penitent Ones. In this review, I will be discussing what challenges I faced while beating Blasphemous with all achievements, and my thoughts on running it blind V.S. with a guide.

Since you are here, you are probably wondering if you also have what it takes to 100% this gruesome Metroidvania. By the end, I hope you’ll know if you are truly up for the challenge.

First Run: Blind

Jumping into the world of Cvstodia was a speechless experience, with its gorgeous graphics that show off this blood-covered landscape with its many grotesque creatures. While I adored the look of the game it felt that story-wise it was lacking.

After beating the game for the first time I had no idea who I was or what I was trying to accomplish besides slaying monsters. There is lore, l am sure, however, it’s vague throughout the game and it is likely that most casual players could play the whole game and have no clue about the story.

The game mechanics were good, but nothing groundbreaking compared to other Metroidvanias. However, I did not feel it was lacking either as I quickly got used to the gameplay and combat system which overall felt comfortable and familiar.

After completing my first run and reviewing my trophy list I slowly realized that this 100% playthrough was going to be a bit harder than I thought.

Second Run – Collectibles and Quest

Now that I felt like I was decently stuck, it was time to kick open a guide and knock out these remaining achievements. We got a lot done with the first run since a good majority of the achievements are progression based or were easily attainable through a bit of exploring and grinding.

What we had remaining were collectibles, side quests, and challenge trophies that I either missed or forgot about during the first run. Since there was a lot to do I decided to make this a collection run and forgo a few challenges till my next playthrough.

The collectibles and side quests were not too difficult to accomplish albeit the backtracking was tedious for a few of them. Now you might ask:

“Can I 100% this game without a guide?”

Yes, but it is going to be a challenge…

Honestly, I would have struggled without the guide as a lot of these achievements involve either finding hidden passageways by luck or events triggered with little to no direction on how to do so.

Third run: Challenges

With everything done besides the challenges, I was ready to finish out with the third run being my last. In total there are three challenge trophies and of those, there are only two that were notable. The first was the “Bronze Medal” which is obtained by passing through the bronze door on the Bridge of Calvary in less than 3 hours.

This achievement was not difficult by itself, however, paired with this next achievement (or forgoing any solid plan or route when starting the game like I did) can lead you to waste a lot of precious time. With a route set beforehand, you can easily get to the gate with an hour to spare if the bosses do not give you too much trouble.

After opening the Bronze Door on the Bridge of Calvary

The second achievement was “Requiem Aeternam” which is obtained by defeating the original bosses without consuming any bile flasks. Now this was by far the hardest achievement I faced in the game however here are the tips I used to get me past this hurdle.

With the main healing mechanic out the window, I needed to maximize my damage which is why I recommend acquiring the Token of Appreciation Rosary Bead from the Church as a donation reward. This item gives sword attacks +15% damage while all bile flasks are depleted which is great since we can not use the flask in boss fights.

The other hint is simply taking the time to learn the bosses’ patterns to avoid hits with some well-timed dodges or parries and of course punishing them for any openings they give you. After slaying the finale boss again I was awarded “Requiem Aeternam” and the following achievement for all achievements acquired and with that I was done.

Closing Remarks

Overall Blasphemous is not a difficult game to 100%. A few of the achievements will be tedious if you dislike backtracking and plan to go in blind. If you do plan on running this game I highly recommend jumping in blind to get a feel for the game before finishing this challenge.

In total it took me 3 attempts to complete this 100% playthrough which is not bad compared to the 2 minimum attempts needed to complete this challenge as long as everything is done correctly. Many thanks to Cynic 0055 and Kestrel 0010 who created the “100% Achievement Guide: Blasphemous”, https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2590480741. With that said I wish you luck Penitent Ones on your pilgrimage to witness the Miracle.
